Egypt's capital markets are drawing record retail attention. Egyptian press in May 2026 reports new EGX investor registrations up ~215% in Q1 2026 year-on-year, with on the order of 64,000 new investors in April alone. Investment fund net assets reportedly reached about EGP 410.6 billion in March 2026, versus ~EGP 316 billion just three months earlier. Precious-metals fund assets roughly doubled ~EGP 5.1B to over EGP 10B , with investors under 40 said to account for more than 80% of gold-fund certificate holders. The demand story is loud. The supply of institutional private-market product has not kept pace. The FRA convened industry participants — funds, banks, legal and accounting advisers — to discuss exits, securitization, and the regulatory frame for private capital. Private Ownership Fund structures have been available for years, yet take-up in the private sector has been minimal: press and legal guides point to only a handful of prominent examples e.g. Sawari Ventures, Catalyst . Macro targets underline the ambition: EGP ~3.7 trillion in total investment for FY 2026/27, with the private sector expected to fund the majority. Egypt has also joined World Bank–backed programmes to deepen local capital markets; institutional depth outside state vehicles remains low as a share of GDP versus many peers — a gap policy is explicitly trying to close. The editorial read: platforms and rules can widen the road. Someone still has to manufacture investable SMEs and mid-market deals. Most retail momentum today is in listed equities, money-market funds, and gold. Deal flow upstream of funds — turning operating businesses into diligence-ready opportunities — remains the binding constraint if Egypt wants volume and velocity.
