Gaming, sports, and media: Egypt's $1.5 billion invisible economy that nobody's investing in — yet

Egypt has 106 million people. 76% of gamers in the MENA-3 region Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt are under 35, with Egypt carrying a significantly higher share under 25. Egypt's gaming industry generated $738 million from mobile games alone in 2024, with the total market projected to reach $1.54 billion by 2030 at a 10.3% CAGR. The median age in the country is 24. And yet — when you look at where investment capital actually flows in Egypt, this entire economy is almost invisible. The gaming gap. Egypt is set to host the inaugural SPiCE Middle East gaming conference in Sharm El Sheikh this November, positioning the country as a meeting point for gaming, betting, and digital investment stakeholders across MENA. President El-Sisi launched Egypt's National AI Strategy 2025–2030, targeting 30,000 AI specialists and 250+ AI startups, with initiatives supporting gaming studios through ITIDA and innovation hubs. But the actual capital raised by Egyptian gaming startups tells a different story — seed rounds in the low six figures, no Series A exits to point to, and a talent pool that's cheap and skilled but chronically underfunded. Of total MENA-3 gamer spending in 2023, Egypt accounted for only 10.5% compared to Saudi Arabia's 57.6% and the UAE's 31.9%. The consumers are here. The builders are here. The capital isn't. The sports investment play. Egypt's Minister of Investment Mohamed Farid and Minister of Youth and Sports Gohar Nabil — a former handball legend appointed in February 2026 — are actively exploring the creation of a dedicated investment fund for sports talent development. The fund would serve as an innovative and sustainable financing mechanism aimed at preparing champions, with discussions focused on leveraging investment fund models to introduce professional financing products. The meeting included the FRA, Azimut Egypt's CEO, and Beltone's Head of Markets — this isn't talk, it's structuring. The government's broader sports strategy includes preparation for LA 2028 Olympics, launching sports companies, promoting sports tourism, and accelerating the Egyptian Football Development Plan 2038. The media vacuum. Egypt produces more Arabic-language content than any other country in the region — music, film, TV, digital creators. But the infrastructure to invest in content as an asset class barely exists in MENA. Saudi is building it with Savvy Games Group, MBC's IPO, and Neom's media city. Egypt has the talent and the audience but no vehicle for investors to participate in content economics — no media-focused fund, no creator economy platform raising capital, no structured participation in the value these industries generate. Why this matters for Pend's audience. Three sectors — gaming, sports, media — share the same structural profile: massive young demographic demand. Government signaling and early institutional interest. Real revenue and global relevance. But almost zero investable infrastructure for qualified investors. This is the pattern Pend exists to solve. Not just in real estate or equities — but in the alternative asset classes where Egypt's next economy is actually being built. The 24-year-old median Egyptian doesn't dream of buying a certificate of deposit. They game, they watch content, they follow athletes. The investment infrastructure of the future has to meet them where they are. This content is educational and informational.
